Our mothers have taught us lots of things in life.
They’ve taught us to be compassionate, by thinking about the little boy in school who gets picked last everytime for the P.E. relay team.
They’ve taught us to be smart, by helping us recite spelling words, by giving us little clues to remember addition facts and by reading us our favorite books over and over again.
They’ve taught us to be strong, by showing us how to stand up to a bully, by giving us confidence to go on a stage full of people, by helping us practice our batting swing in the back yard.
They’ve taught us to be loving, by letting us keep the stray kitten, by kissing our bloody knees, by housing a caterpillar until he blossoms into a butterfly.
They’ve taught us to be kind by making us share our toys with our younger brother, by giving away clothes to those less fortunate, by giving hugs to our aunt.
They’ve taught us to be polite by using ‘yes ma’am’, by opening a door for a lady and by never telling a lie.
They’ve taught us to be a dreamer by letting us believe we could fly, by taking us to the dinosaur museum when we wanted to become a paleontologist and by listening to us sing when our voice was still young and squeaky.
They’ve taught us to be.
